Chicago-based developer Fifield Cos. has started vertical construction at Wynwood Station, a 210-unit property in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood located one block from a planned light rail station.
The Wynwood rail station is one of five proposed along the Northeast Corridor Rapid Transit Project, a new planned commuter train running along an existing section of the Florida East Coast railway that is also used by passenger rail operator Brightline. The light rail would operate between Brightline’s MiamiCenter and Aventura stations.
Funding for the project was approved in September, according to NBC Miami. The new line is expected to start construction in 2025 and open for riders in 2028, and the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation expects it to serve 2.5 million passengers in its first year in operation.
The eight-story Wynwood Station property, designed by Miami-based MSA Architects, is inspired by Wynwood’s industrial history, with white panels and dark brickwork atop 11,000 square feet of retail and a public paseo on the ground level.
Wynwood Station will offer access to Wynwood’s restaurants, retail and public art, including murals and other street art, according to the release.
“Given the culture, vibrancy and walkability of Wynwood, it’s no wonder so many people want to live in the neighborhood and enjoy the lifestyle it affords,” said Sarina Sorrentino, vice president of finance and development at Fifield Cos., in a press release shared with Multifamily Dive.
The property’s units will range from studios to two-bedrooms, 567 to 1,036 square feet in size. All will offer balconies, quartz countertops, stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets and in-unit laundry. Select units have chef’s islands, waterfall countertops and wine chillers.
Amenities will include a lounge, party room, makerspace, demonstration kitchen, indoor/outdoor fitness space, golf simulator, pet spa and remote work station. A rooftop sundeck will offer a pool, hot tub, lounge seating and grills and dining areas.
