Richmond, Virginia-based real estate firm Capital Square has named Jon Trott and Dave Platter as co-chief investment officers leading its strategic investment initiatives. In their new roles, Trott and Platter will oversee the company’s investment strategy, allocations, new business development and new partnerships and joint ventures.
“Since our founding in 2012, Capital Square has grown significantly in both size and sophistication,” said Whitson Huffman, co-chief executive officer of Capital Square, in a press release. “As co-chief investment officers, Jon and Dave will help Capital Square continue to diversify our investment opportunities and equity partners.”
Trott and Platter both joined Capital Square in 2022 as managing directors for its private equity group, a new division focused on single-family build-to-rent and other non-traditional investments. Previously, Trott and Platter led the private equity team at The Amherst Group’s build-to-rent division, overseeing capital raising, acquisitions and overall management.
Before The Amherst Group, Trott held roles at Spear Street Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm, and at JPMorgan Chase. Platter was the co-founder of Southern Creek Capital, a single-family rental and multifamily investment manager, and previously worked at the JBG Companies (now JBG Smith) and JP Morgan Chase.
Capital Square has completed more than $7.8 billion in transactions since its founding and has approximately 2,000 units in its development pipeline across eight projects, valued at over $590 million.
