Charleston, South Carolina-based developer, owner and operator Greystar is joining the Sunterra master-planned community in Katy, Texas, located north of Houston, with the groundbreaking of the Summerwell Sunterra build-to-rent development.
The 2,303-acre Sunterra master plan, operated by Starwood Land, is primarily a for-sale development with approximately 7,000 homes by over a dozen single-family builders planned at full buildout, including D.R. Horton, KB Home, Lennar Homes and Pulte Homes. The amenity complexes at Sunterra, currently in development, will include a Crystal Lagoons pool with a sand beach and cabanas, a lazy river, a clubhouse, pickleball courts and sports fields, a turf lawn, a playground and a fitness center.
Future development will also include a commercial area and elementary school.
The Summerwell Sunterra property, part of Greystar’s Summerwell brand, will consist of 156 detached homes and townhomes, ranging from three to four bedrooms in size. The property will have its own playground, pergola and grills, but residents will have access to all Sunterra amenities, with the clubhouse, lazy river and pickleball courts located directly across the street.
"Katy is a booming suburb of Houston, and Sunterra is currently the top-selling master-planned community in Texas, so we couldn't think of a better place to break ground on Greystar's first build-for-rent community in the greater Houston area," said Brian Herwald, Houston-based managing director of development for Greystar, in a press release.
The Summerwell brand encompasses over 10,000 homes across 50 single-family rental properties, with another 2,000 single-family homes and townhomes currently in development. Other new properties include Summerwell Maple Grove in Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Summerwell Avian Pointe in Apopka, Florida, pictured above.
