Jericho, New York-based developer Kimco Realty has opened the second residential building in its Pentagon Centre development, The Milton — an 11-story, 253-unit tower named after Kimco Realty founder Milton Cooper.
The Milton is located on top of a Metro station in Arlington, Virginia’s Pentagon City neighborhood. It is within walking distance of the National Landing neighborhood and Amazon’s newly opened second headquarters campus, and less than 2 miles from Ronald Reagan National Airport.
The building sits on an angled corner lot, with a footprint that curves to fit the shape of the surrounding streets. The brown masonry base facade is interrupted by rows of cantilevered window wells and terraces, which create waves of glass and metal across the exterior.
The multi-phase, mixed-use Pentagon Centre project also includes The Milton’s sister building, The Witmer, a 26-story, 440-unit tower that opened in 2019. The Pentagon Centre plan also includes offices, a hotel and more retail space, including 16,000 square feet of retail at The Milton, with tenants set to be announced later this year.
“The Milton provides residents with direct access to several key sites in Arlington, which has become a huge hub for recent development, including…the newly delivered Amazon HQ2 offices in National Landing and the Arlington Virginia Tech satellite campus nearby,” Tom Simmons, president of Kimco Realty’s Southern region, said in a press release shared with Multifamily Dive.
Metropolitan Park, the first phase of Amazon’s second headquarters, opened on May 22 after three and a half years under construction. The property includes two 22-story office towers, expected to accommodate up to 14,000 employees, as well as 50,000 square feet of retail and a 2.5-acre community park. The groundbreaking for the second phase of HQ2 was put on hold in March.
The Milton offers studio, one- and two-bedroom units, which were 25% leased as of its opening in late May, according to the press release. The units feature quartz countertops, glass tile backsplashes and ceiling fans in bedrooms. Customizable closets and outdoor balconies are available in some apartments.
The indoor/outdoor rooftop deck includes an infinity pool, outdoor kitchen and grills, cabana, fireplaces and lounge areas with views of Washington, D.C. Two outdoor courtyards are also located on site, including a central area specifically equipped for remote working outdoors. A fitness studio, pet spa, and community garden round out the amenity package.
