Seaside steel
Coastalume, jointly designed by U.S. Steel and DuPont, is a variation on the Galvalume steel sheet specifically engineered for use in coastal environments. The new product includes DuPont’s Tedlar polyvinyl flouride film barrier, made to increase the sheet’s resistance to saltwater corrosion, UV damage, cracking and impact, according to a press release.
The sheet is available in over 30 color and finish options, including metallics, wood grains and stone finishes. Its coastal warranty covers roofing and siding installed up to 300 feet from breaking surf, large bays, marshes and other coastlines.
Weathering the elements
The Dura Exterior Paint by Dunn-Edwards Corporation is designed to resist tough outdoor conditions, including weather and repeated washings, without stains or scuffing, according to a press release shared with Multifamily Dive.
The paint is available in flat, satin, and semi-gloss sheens in a choice of 210 colors. It may be applied to a variety of exterior surfaces, including wood, stucco, vinyl siding, brick, doors, trim, metal and fences.
Fluorescent out, LED in
The Lutron ballast retrofit kit by C-Flex, a division of Lutron Electronics, enables users to convert existing fluorescent lighting fixtures to take LED bulbs. They can be installed in the same amount of time required to replace a ballast, according to a press release, and may be implemented on a fixture-by-fixture basis with no need to open the ceiling, pull new wire or replace lamp wiring.
The kits are coming on the market as Lutron plans to stop manufacturing and selling most fluorescent dimming ballasts by the end of 2023, with some exceptions. The series includes replacements for T8, T5, T5HO lamps in 4-ft lamp lengths, as well as vertical and horizontal CFL lamps.
Marble match
Surfacing manufacturer Laminam has introduced four new colors to the I Naturali Collection in the North American market, inspired by the look of natural marble stone found in Italy, Spain and Brazil, according to a press release shared with Multifamily Dive. Each surface is made from 20% to 60% pre-consumer recycled materials, and is available in a variety of formats and thicknesses.
The Calacatta Mediceo Bookmatch, inspired by Calacatta Macchia Vecchia marble, features rich grey veins and orange-brown oxidation staining. Arabescato Gold features dark grey veins on a white background in circular patterns. Nero Parquina Extra is a dark surface with white veins, and Fusion White, a beige with grey veins, is designed after Brazilian Patagonian marble.
